AutoCAD is not required to run LoopCAD. However, LoopCAD is able to import AutoCAD 2010 (and earlier) drawing files for use as a template for your plumbing system design, and it can also export to the DWG and DXF file formats.
Yes you can import PDF drawings or scanned drawings in JPG, PNG, or BMP formats.
The LoopCAD version is displayed on the Main Menu directly under the “License Status” heading. You can also get more detailed information about LoopCAD by selecting ‘Help | About LoopCAD’ menu.
Yes, with the Professional Edition you can calculate residential heat losses using either ASHRAE or CSA-F280. The Standard Edition does not calculate the heat losses but you can input unit loads manually, and have the hydronic calculations performed based on these. Refer to the Feature Comparison Chart for more.

Yes. You can install LoopCAD 2010 trial without affecting your LoopCAD 1.7 or 1.5 installation. Both versions can be used on the same computer at the same time.
If you choose not to renew your annual subscription and then later want to upgrade to a newer version of LoopCAD, you can either:

The LoopCAD license permits one primary-use installation (for example, your office computer) and one secondary-use installation (for example, on a home or notebook computer), provided that they are both for your use only. The professional Edition of LoopCAD includes all of the functionality of HeatCAD 2010, so you would not normally need both software packages. However, the Standard Edition of LoopCAD 2010 does not includes the automated heat loss calculations.
